Disaster and Emergency Policy
Ensuring Access to Care in Times of CrisisAt SECUR Health Plan, your health and safety are always our priority. During declared disasters or public health emergencies, we take immediate steps to ensure you can access the care and medications you need — no matter the situation.
This policy outlines how we support you during emergency situations, consistent with Medicare Advantage regulations.
When Does This Policy Apply?
This policy is activated when an emergency or disaster is declared by:
- The President of the United States
- The Governor of Florida
- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
- Or another applicable federal, state, or local authority
How We Keep You Informed
- We’ll post timely updates and any emergency-related changes on our website.
- You may also receive direct communication via mail, email, or phone if your area is affected.
- Our Member Services team is available to help you locate care or resolve issues during emergencies.
Access to Medical Services During Emergencies
When an emergency is declared:
- You can receive care from out-of-network providers. If your regular providers are unavailable, you may receive services from non-contracted providers. These services will be covered at in-network cost-sharing levels.
- Prior authorizations and referrals may be waived. To remove barriers to urgent care, we may temporarily waive certain administrative requirements.
- Emergency and urgently needed care is always covered. Regardless of your location or provider network status.
Access to Medications
- Early refills for Part D medications are permitted. If you’re in an affected area, you can refill your prescriptions early.
- Out-of-network pharmacy coverage. If network pharmacies are inaccessible, we’ll cover medications at out-of-network pharmacies when needed.
Access to Medical Services During Emergencies
Emergency provisions remain in effect:
- For the duration of the officially declared emergency; or
- Until 30 days after the last public declaration has ended; or
- Until CMS notifies us that normal operations should resume.
